Beijing China Transport

Beijing Transport – To move around Beijing, there are several transport options including car, taxi, subway and bus. With the upcoming Olympic Games, the transport in Beijing is being upgraded. If you think you might drive yourself around the city, it’s worth thinking again. Hiring a car is difficult and a chauffeur driven car is very reasonable. Taxis are the preferred choice of transportation for tourists when they want to see the sights about Beijing. You can locate a taxi by finding a taxi stand, which is located outside all major hotels. Hailing a taxi should cause you no problems, but it is quite hard to find a cab when the weather is rainy. In China, you will find that taxi fares are quite reasonable. Expect to pay about 10 to 20RMB for quick trips. Longer excursions can run you a bill of 100RMB.

Since taxis don’t put a hole in your pocket, buses are rarely considered when a tourist has to get from here to there. But look towards a bus when you want to visit outlying towns. Minibuses are also a popular way to Travel Around Beijing and the price is very reasonable. You could also hop on a double-decker tourist bus, which will circle the city. If you choose the bus as your way to tour the city, look for a chartered bus when visiting your tourist destinations.

You could also choose to ride the subway. Looking for a subway station? Ask your Hotel Concierge and if you have already embarked on your journey, you can look for a sign with a “D” with a circle around it. Subway maps can be found beside the ticket counters. For more information on transportation and to gather a bunch of maps, contact the Beijing Tourism Administration (Tourism Office), located at 28 Jianguomenwai St. (+86-10-6515-8844). For the underground you buy your ticket and then pass it over to another person. The stations are marked in both Chinese and English but you need to plan your trip well to make sure you are getting the right train going the way you want to go. The next station is announced in both English and Chinese.
